Carolina Falkholt AKA Blue and Grafitta is one of Sweden’s most famous graffiti artists. Recently she could be seen in Konstkampen on Swedish public service TV, and now she is coming to HL for a solo show.
In February 2013 the artist created a large mural at Landvetter Airport. The place made her think about how painting – for her as practitioner, but also for the audience – could serve as an opportunity for escapism. The idea of creation might serve as escapism, just like a vacation trip to Thailand. This made her feel uncomfortable, but she could also not stop thinking about it.
Maybe she started to draw in order to escape reality and then proceeded to paint to get away from the small town she grew up in, later, from the small country of Sweden – and then back again.
The word escape, in the sense of flying, has a positive connotation, associated with freedom. The word fits well with other words like loud, fast, and easy. The word escape, in the sense of fleeing, instead has a negative connotation and is often used as a synonym to give up – to lose. But, sometimes you have to escape to save yourself.
The exhibition Fleeting Fluids continues the exploration of various aspects of flight. The method is a series of newly produced paintings, a lithograph and a performance at Culture Night Stockholm, April 20 (more about this later on).You are all warmly welcome to the opening on Friday the 5:th of april! Carolina Falkholt är en av sveriges mest omtalade graffitimålare. Hennes alias har varit Blue och Grafitta.
Nyligen kunde vi se henne i Konstkuppen på SVT, nu kommer hon till HL för separatutställning och performance!
I februari 2013 skapade konstnären en stor väggmålning på Landvetter flygplats. Platsen fick henne att tänka på hur måleriet – för henne som utövare, men även för publiken – kunde fungera som en möjlighet till verklighetsflykt. Idén att skapandet kanske fungerar som verklighetsflykt, på samma sätt som en semesterresa till Thailand. Detta kändes obehagligt, men hon kunde samtidigt inte släppa tanken.
Kanske började hon en gång teckna för att fly verkligheten, och fortsatte sedan att måla för att komma bort från den lilla ort hon växt upp i, senare från det lilla landet Sverige – och sen tillbaks igen.
Ordet flykt, i bemärkelsen flyga, har en positiv klang med associationer till frihet. Ordet passar bra tillsammans med andra ord som högt, snabbt och lätt. Ordet flykt, i bemärkelsen flyende, har istället en negativ klang och används inte sällan som synonym till att ge upp – att förlora. Men, ibland måste man rädda sig genom flykt.
På HL Gallery fortsätter utforskandet av flyktens olika sidor.
Metoden är en serie nyproducerade målningar, ett grafiskt blad samt en performance som kommer uppföras under Kulturnatt Sthlm, den 20 april (mer info senare).
