IKAROZ · Cause Célèbre, 3rd – 24th of May 2013
“I am an artist. But I would like to emphasize that I am also a graffiti writer. That is my background and my roots, something I never try to deny. There must be tags, playful sentences, year and so on. “. The words are Ikaroz and we’ve met in the artist’s studio a couple of weeks before the opening of the exhibition, to discuss some details.
Several years ago, Ikaroz formed the epitome of a fine artist who paints graffiti. He paints at a furious pace, just as he did when the street served as canvas and matte.
The artist is also typical of his generation of graffiti artists, in the way that he has reached his position in the art world without having undergone higher art studies. In the 1990s and well into the 00′s experience of graffiti was not seen as a merit in terms of admissions at art colleges. In pace with the increasing acceptance of the term, and later the hype, the situation became urgently reversed.
The images contain a unique, ingenious depth. This has led to a series of exhibitions and representation in the collections of many municipalities and businesses.
The concept of Cause Célèbre usually means an unlikely or unexpected situation, which is characterized by contradictory or scandalous details. It could be a phenomenon that is so special that it has reached notoriety outside of the usual crowd.

Ikaroz utgör sedan många år tillbaks själva sinnebilden av en graffitimålande konstnär. Han målar i ett furiöst tempo, på samma sätt som han gjorde när gatan utgjorde canvas och projektionsyta.
Konstnären är också typisk för sin generation av graffitimålare, på det sätt att han nått sin position i konstvärlden utan att ha genomgått högre konststudier. Under 1990-talet och en bit in på 00-talet betraktades erfarenhet av graffiti inte heller som någon merit när det gällde antagning på konsthögskolor. I takt med den ökade acceptansen för uttrycket, och senare hypen, blev situationen snarast den omvända.
I bilderna ryms ett unikt, finurligt djup. Detta har lett till en rad utställningar samt representation i samlingar hos många kommuner och företag.
Med begreppet Cause Célèbre brukar menas en osannolik eller oväntad situation, som präglas av motstridiga eller skandalartade detaljer. Det kan vara en företeelse som är så speciell att den nått ryktbarhet även utanför den mest invigda kretsen.
